If your metal hubcap has a split clip you will need a new one. In this case, to stop the wheelcovers from squeaking, you will need to replace the wheel and not the hub cap. Below you will find insurance grade or fully reconditioned hubcaps. Once you find the Cobalt hubcap or wheelcover you need, simply select the add to cart button below the picture. Note: The terms wheelcovers and hubcaps are often interchanged. You can visually see and feel these grooves very easily. Below is our selection of factory original (OEM) Cobalt hubcaps/wheel covers for steel wheels. Metal hub caps can rattle and squeak when the stainless steel clips have worn grooves in the rim itself. Once all are tight you can then put the center axle nut onto the cv axle and torque it down to 155 ft-lbs. The 3 bolts which hold it onto the steering knuckle should be torqued down to 70 ft-lbs. You also may be missing one of your retention rings that must be replaced. With the new wheel hub installed we can begin to hand tighten down the 3 bolts and then torque them to specs. If you have bent clips, you must fix or straighten them correctly using a hair dryer ( Hubcap Repair Video). If you carefully inspect your clips and find that they are broken, the only thing you can do is replace the hub cap. Plastic wheel covers can rattle or squeak if there are bent or broken clips on the back side. If the noise is gone during this easy trial, repeat the same trial one hub cap at a time to determine if it is just one or all of your wheelcovers. Remove all of your wheelcovers with special removal tool and take a drive close to some buildings to listen for the noise to reflect back off of the buildings through your open car windows.
